The Lady Braves Volleyball program hit the court last week after a week away due to Hurricane Irma, playing matches on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The Lady Braves Volleyball program hit the court last week after a week away due to Hurricane Irma, playing matches on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The JV and Varsity Squad started the week with an away match at Colonial on Tuesday.  Led by setter Emma Knapp, outside hitter Emily Harrison, and middle Alaynah Fennell, he JV team made quick work of the Grenadier’s, putting them down 2 games to 0.  The Varsity team took down Colonial quick in the first set, but met a lull in the second set.  They finished strong, beating Colonial 3 games to 1.  Top Varsity performers were Senior Captain Outside Hitter Erin Carter (20 kills, 14 digs, 5 aces), Sophomore Middle Clara Flint with a .618 hitting average on the night (8 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs, 1 ace), Freshman Setter Ella Durham (29 assists, 10 digs, 4 kills, 4 aces), Junior Captain Opposite Hitter Ashlynn Daley (4 kills, 8 digs), and Junior Libero Kestae Alexander (14 digs, 2 assists, 1 ace).

The Braves then took on Apopka High School on Wednesday, hosting a triple header at home with all 3 teams.  The Freshman team started off the night taking down the Darters 2 games to 0 after a close 2nd game.  The Freshman squad was led by Jessica Sconyers, Kaitlyn Sewell, and Chloe DeAvila. The JV team played next, defeating Apopka quickly, 2 games to 0.  Top JV performers were Emma Knapp, Sophie Adams, Emily Harrison, and Alaynah Fennell.  The Varsity teams squared off the finish the night, both squads playing tough and taking the match to the full 5 sets.  The Lady Braves played well throughout the match, but ultimately could not overcome the the Darters, falling 2 games to 3.  Lead performers for the Varsity Lady Braves were Senior Captain Setter Lily Baker (30 assists, 5 aces, 9 digs), Senior Captain Outside Hitter (22 kills, 14 digs, 3 blocks), Junior Captain Opposite Hitter (8 kills, 10 digs, 1 ace), and Sophomore Middle Hitter Clara Flint (2 kills, 4 blocks, 7 aces).

All 3 Lady Braves teams ended the week with matches on Thursday.  The Freshman squad traveled to Winter Park High School for a tri-match, taking on Timber Creek High School and Winter Park High School.  The Freshman Braves played close with the solid Timber Creek and Winter Park teams, but lost the matches 2 games to 0 and 1 game to 2.  Top performers were Brooke Smith, Jessica Sconyers, and Kaitlyn Sewell.  The JV and Varsity teams hosted East River at The Reservation on Thursday.  Led by outstanding play from sophomore Emily Harrison, the JV squad dominated East River 2 games to 0.  Next up, the Varsity Lady Braves played 3 close games with the Falcons, eventually winning out 3 games to 0.  Top performers for Varsity were Junior Libero Kestae Alexander (17 digs, 4 assists, 1 ace), Senior Captain Outside Hitter Erin Carter (15 kills, 3 digs, 1 ace), Junior Captain Setter/Outside Hitter Lily Baker (5 aces, 4 kills, 14 digs), and Freshman Setter Ella Durham (21 assists, 9 digs, 2 aces).

This week sees the Freshman team with a season record of 3-3 so far, JV is undefeated with a record of 9 -0, and the Varsity Lady Braves go into the 5th week of play with a  regular season record of  8-7. 

All 3 teams are back in action this week, hosting 3 home matches in a row.  On Tuesday 9/26, the Braves take on Winter Park, for Senior Night on Wednesday 9/27 they square off with Freedom, and Thursday 9/28 they close the week against Lake Nona.
