Lady Braves Lacrosse Update!
3/13/2018 9:01:00 AM
The Lady Braves Lacrosse Squads have been continuing their seasons, as they are in full swing with district and metro games.

Both JV and Varsity squads fell to Lake Nona in heart-breaking, last minute goals. JV lost 3-2 after leading for most of the game. Sydney Capen and Madison Graham would each score a goal, while Gabbie Roberts was strong in net. Capen would also pick up five groundballs, while Ashley Troy scooped up six of her own.

Varsity fell to the Lions 7-6 in OT. With the Braves down by a goal with a 1:30 left to play, the Braves would score with one second left on the clock to force overtime. The Braves luck seem to wear off as Lake Nona would score on a free position shot. Juliette Paymayesh, Amy Undieme, Mae Agcaoili, Kara Gentry, Sydney Haselden, and Maddie Bogan scored for the Braves. Avery Tyndall and Lexi Pace added assists. Payton Johnson made 10 saves, helping the Braves battle back.

In the Play4Douglas games against Timber Creek High School, the JV Braves would come out victorious, 8-3. After a slow first half, the teams were knotted at 1-1. To start the second half, however, the Braves would explode for seven straight goals, leading 8-1 at one point. Taylor McNeill had a game-high three goals. Madison Graham would add two of her own, while Sydney Capen, Gabriella Young, and Ashley Troy each added a goal a piece. Gabbie Roberts earned the win, making six saves.

Using JV's momentum, the Braves would come into the game hot, scoring the game's first two goals, as well as getting off six shots in the opening two minutes of the game. However, Varsity would fall, 9-8, in another overtime heartbreaker. Again, late heroics were called upon as the Braves scored with less than 30 seconds left in the game to tie it up at 8-8. The Braves would make a big defensive stop before heading into the overtime frame. Again, a free position goal would be costly as the Wolves would come on top over the Braves. Jessica Shutack and Kara Gentry both had three goals, while Lexi Pace added two of her own. Payton Johnson played admirably, making nine stops and keeping the Braves in the game for all 50 minutes.

With the JV Braves having a day off, the varsity squad was back to work, and taking care of business. The Braves would defeat Freedom High School, 9-6, in a game where the score was closer than the actual play. Up only 5-3 at the half, the Braves would increase their lead to 9-3, keeping the game away from the Patriots. The Patriots were able to score three more goals towards the end of the game. Jessica Shutack added three goals for the Braves, while Maddie Bogan would add two. Juliette Paymayesh, Zoe Murphy, Avery Tyndall, and Cassidi would each add their own goals for the Braves. Payton Johnson would make 12 saves, earning the win.

JV Braves improve to 2-2 on the year. Varsity improves to 3-4 (2-2 D, 3-3 M). The Braves are back in action Wednesday and Thursday against University High School and Colonial High School (JV vs Lake Highland Prep) before the Braves are off for Spring Break.
