Cheerleaders at Metro Conference Championships

Cheerleading tryouts for the 2016-2017 school year will begin on Monday, May 23rd and conclude on Thursday, May 26th. These tryouts will be for the varsity and junior varsity sideline teams, as well as the competitive team. Each day tryouts will begin in Boone’s gym at 2:45 p.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. with the exception of Wednesday when tryouts will begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. In order to be eligible for tryouts, athletes must comply with the following:

1.)   Sign up with Ms. Hutsell in room 205 or contact her at

2.)   Student athletes must be rising 10th, 11th, or 12th graders.

3.)   Athletes must have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average.

4.)   Students transferring into Boone must be registered for the 2016-17 school year and must comply with all residential and academic requirements.

5.)   Athletes must have a current physical on file with Boone High School. Physical forms can be found in Boone’s front office or found on Boone’s athletic website:

6.)   Tumbling Requirements: to be considered for the varsity cheer team, athletes must be able to perform, at minimum, a standing back handspring. Any other tumbling capabilities will enhance an athlete’s tryout.

Cheerleading is a recognized sport in the state of Florida and carries with it a unique set of athletic skills. These skills include jumps, tight arm motions, tumbling, dance, and elite stunting. Athletes will be taught the necessary material for tryouts. Tumbling skills will enhance an athlete’s performance during the tryout process.
