Boys Varsity Volleyball Ends Season with a Tough Loss to Winter Park in District Finals
4/27/2017 7:49:00 AM
The Braves Boys Varsity Volleyball team took on Winter Park in a District Semi-Finals Match on Tuesday at Timber Creek High School. The Braves entered the post-season tournament with an overall record of 9-12, and a district record of 4-2. The Wildcats came with an impressive overall record of 15-7, and district record of 5-1.  This marks head coach Lindsey Pike's first season as varsity head coach for the Braves, and the team's second year in a row returning to the District Tournament.  The Braves have taken on the Winter Park Wildcats two matches already during their 2017 season, showing improvements each time.  The same can be said for this final showdown.  The Braves played close with the Wildcats in the first 2 sets, often going point for point in a strong showing, falling by 5 points or less in each game, 20-25 and 21-25.  In the third set, the Braves rallied with great leadership from senior setter and captain, Karl Schaefer, and aggressive play from outside hitter sophomore Douglas Page and Senior Middle Buddy Best.  A strong effort led the Braves to a 26-24 win over the Wildcats in the 3rd set.  In the 4th set, the Wildcats came back forcefully, with accurate hitting and hustle.  Despite great effort, the Braves fell in the 4th set 16-25, ending the match with Winter Park winning 3-1.
