Varsity/JV/Competitive/Freshmen Cheer Tryout Information

Cheerleading tryouts for the 2017-18 school year will begin on Monday, May 22nd and conclude on Thursday, May 25th. These tryouts will be for the varsity and junior varsity sideline teams, as well as the competitive team. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday tryouts will begin in Boone's gym at 2:45 p.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday tryouts will be begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.
Freshmen tryouts will begin on May 22nd and conclude on Thursday, May 25th. Tryouts will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

In order to be eligible for tryouts, athletes must comply with tbe following:
1. Sign up with Ms. Hutsell in room 205 or contact her at cynthia.hutsell@ocps.net
2. Student-athletes must be rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders.
3. Athletes must have a unweighted cumulative 2.0 GPA
4. Students transferring into Boone must be registered for the 2017-18 school year and must comply with all residential and academic requirements.
5. Athletes must have a current physical on file with Boone High School. Physical forms can be found in Boone's front office or on the the Boone athletic website: booneathletics@ocps.net
6. Tumbling requirements: To be considered for the competitive cheer team, athletes must be able to perform, at a minimum, a standing back handspring. Any other tumbling capabilities will enhance an athlete's tryout.

Cheerleading is a recognized sport in the state of Florida and carries with it a unique set of athletic skills. These skills include jumps, tight arm motions, tumbling, dance and elite stunting. Athletes will be the taught the necessary material for tryouts. Tumbling skills will enhance an athlete's performance during the tryout process.
